How to Measure Accurately

Accurate measurement is crucial for meaningful comparisons. Follow these steps carefully to ensure your results are as precise as possible.

1. Prepare Your Tools

You will need:

  • A flexible measuring tape or a ruler and a piece of non-elastic string.
  • A mirror (optional, but can help with visibility).
  • Ensure you are fully erect for measurement.

2. Measuring Length

This measurement should be taken from the top side of the penis.

  1. Gently press the ruler or tape measure down onto your pubic bone (suprapubic fat pad) until it makes contact. This ensures you measure only the erect length, not any overlying fat.
  2. Measure from the base of the penis to the tip of the glans (head), being careful not to include any foreskin if uncircumcised.
  3. Keep the ruler/tape straight and parallel to the penis.
  4. Record the measurement to the nearest millimeter or 1/16th of an inch.

3. Measuring Girth (Circumference)

Girth is the circumference of the shaft.

  1. Use a flexible measuring tape. If you don't have one, use a non-elastic string and then measure the string with a ruler.
  2. Measure around the thickest part of the shaft (usually mid-shaft).
  3. Do not pull the tape too tightly or leave it too loose. It should be snug but not compressing the tissue.
  4. Record the measurement to the nearest millimeter or 1/16th of an inch.
